INGREDIENTS 1 medium banana 1 cup of frozen blueberries 1 cup and a half of almond milk or water 2 chocolate whey protein scoops 1 rounded tablespoon of smooth peanut butter This is probably my favourite post-gym smoothie. I absolutely love it! Feels naughty, but it's packed with goodness and everything you need after a hard workout session. I use a Nutribullet to blend my smoothies. I feel it gives the smoothest finish and I never have a problem with chunks or bits left over. I highly recommend getting one, it's a great investment for your body. Now, you might be asking why blend all this? Why not just eat it? Well I shall let you know why... 1. It tastes amazing. Much better than eating each by itself. 2. Smoothies are easier to digest after a work out. 3. You will get your proteins, sugars and fats a lot faster. ...Ohh and did I mention it tastes amazing! Banana TimeSo first off I take my medium sized banana and cut it in to chunks. A little tip when blending - you should always put your solids (less watery foods) furthest away from the blades. As I'm using a Nutribullet, my banana goes in first. This is going to prevent your blender from jamming or getting blocked up. . BlueberriesNext, we get our measuring cups and take the 1 cup sized one. Get a nice scoop of frozen blueberries and drop them in the nutribullet cup in with the banana. 1 cup is around 100grams. I use cup measurements because they are super easy to use and they look kinda cool. Don't you think? As you could probably tell it's another "solid" food, so it goes with the banana. I use frozen blueberries as it gives an explosion of flavour and makes the smoothie have that chill factor - something fresh blueberries do not give you. So these two ingredients are your sugars. Sugars are so important to get straight in you after a workout. After working out your hormone levels are very unbalanced, with your glucose (sugar) levels being low. We want to balance this out so the protein from the smoothie digests and goes to the muscles rather than being blocked from unbalanced hormones. Having sugar straight away will help replenish the glycogen (stored glucose) you exerted during your workout. The sugar rush will also increase your insulin level, and when your insulin level increases, the peptide hormone attaches itself to specific receptors on muscle cells, creating a freeway for other nutrients like amino acids and protein, to enter directly into the bloodstream. Peanut ButterNext up is our smooth peanut butter. With a tablespoon, get a nice rounded scoop and add that to the mix. My favourite brand is Meridian -it's 100% peanuts, with nothing else being added. Now you don't have to put this in and the smoothie will still taste amazing. It just gives you that extra thickness and also the important fats you need after a workout. much as I do. Be ready for a lot more healthy treats and meals from me. Almond Milk In goes 1 and a half cups of almond milk or water. Almond milk will give it an extra thickness but because of the thick peanut butters adding water instead isn't going to make a huge difference. It's All About The Protein! Finally we are going to put in the chocolate whey protein. I use the brand Optimum Nutrition - I always do when it comes to supplements. I trust the brand fully and that's coming from someone who's pretty much tried everything there is to try. I will always put in whey protein powder after the almond milk or water, this stops the powder sticking to the sides, which it will do if you put the milk/water in second to the powder. Drink upNow the fun part, blending it all together, 20-25 seconds should do it and waaalaaa your very own Creamy-Nut Chocoblue Smoothie. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Be ready for a lot more healthy treats and meals from me.
